Community Resources
Support
There are a host of agencies that can help you find the equipment and services you may need. Some are designed to help those with a specific illness or condition, such as TBI , MS, Spina Bifida, ALS. Others aid populations whose members have a considerable range of assistance and medical needs, ie) Disabled Veterans, Catholic Charities, NYS Housing Department. Many of these agencies have case managers and social workers who will help you in getting what you need to continue experiencing the best quality of life possible in your chosen community.
Your first step is to register as a member with the support agencies that address your condition and ask for help.
Equipment
Some of these agencies have “loan closets”. Much of the equipment is donated and loaned to you until you no longer need it. There is usually no cost to you. When you are finished with the item, the equipment is returned to the loan pool for others who may need it.
We get a lot of questions regarding insurance coverage and payment plans. Those are the questions you need to ask your case manager, social worker and insurance company. Each case is individual and therefore your options may be different as well. Sometimes an agency may pay for your equipment, or you may qualify for a reduced rate or a loan rather than paying directly. The links provided below are a starting point.
If you find you do not qualify, another option is to rent equipment. We regularly rent portable and modular aluminum ramps, stairlifts, and have a limited selection of portable vertical wheelchair lifts. We also sell refurbished equipment at a discount. Rentals and used equipment are dependent on compatibility and availability.
